I picked Gully out of a litter when he was 5 wks old. He was bred by two long time BT breeders Nancy Hughes and Nancy Kloskowski. He came home at 8 weeks and proved himself to be a "terrier's terrier".
He quickly taught Stormy that being a dog you have certain inaliable rights like stealing food when the humans are momentarily distracted. One of the funniest things that happened was I set down two bowls of spaghetti for Jimmy and a friend one day and that little dog raced around the other side of the coffee table and stuck his whole head in the bowl and started gobbling down the spaghetti. Jimmy quickly picked him up by the scruff and Gulliver’s whole face was full of pasta with most of it hanging out of his mouth! We were laughing and running for paper towels. How can you scold a dog for being a dog??? Gulliver also had a silent way of letting client dogs that would come to visit know that the tennis balls were HIS.
They would walk over and attempt to engage him in play and most would slowly back away. However there were a few that were slow to understand that the tennis balls belonged to Gully and Gully alone and I would get a kick out of the little brown grizzled dog flying through the air to make his point. He never bit or did anything malicious but the surprise airborne movement always caused the newcomer to back off and finally get it. Gulliver was also a good little show dog, even getting a G3 under Mrs. Lorraine Boutwell in a competitive terrier group many years ago. Most of all he was my little buddy and even when he wasn’t being shown or competing in obedience any longer he still went everywhere with me. To his credit Gulliver had a couple of High in Trial awards at several obedience trials and was titled in AKC and UKC. All good things come to an end they say and Gulliver came to an end on a beautiful spring day in March of 2006. He was with me at home surrounded by the people and dogs who loved him. After 15 ½ years with him somewhere deep down I thought he would live forever.
He does live on in my heart though and I still miss that little guy.
