Our Philosophy

Bold, birdy, outgoing and affectionate are all adjectives I use to describe a German Wirehaired Pointer. The hallmark of this breed is his wire coat which helps protect him from heavy brush while hunting as well as during water work.

This breed is an interesting dichotomy of attributes - fearless and independent while hunting, yet they tend to be laid back couch potatoes in the house. A very personal type of dog, they do not do well as a "kennel dog" but prefer the company of their humans. They are capable of all sorts of activities from dog shows, field trials, hunt tests, obedience, agility, NAVHDA, SAR, scentwork of any kind (drug, bomb, seizure detection) and just your best friend.

This breed, like any dog requires training, exercise and in particular, infinite amounts of patience! Their demeanor can run from stubborn and aloof to bored and 'deaf'. Typically they hunt aggressively, seeking out objectives and using their noses very well. In my experience a wirehair is not difficult to train, you just need patience, a sense of humor and an understanding that they tend to be hard and crispy on the outside but very soft on the inside. They are not like other breeds that can sometimes take a heavy handed trainer, they need much more finesse, but they are eager to please and will make a great family member and hunting partner.

Our GWP breedings are scrutinized for proper coat, temperament, accordance with the AKC breed standard and performance abilities. We only want to produce dogs that are correct in coat and physique, have lots of drive and great attitudes/temperaments.
