Pups eyes and ears are open. They are no longer living like ‘Tommy’ from the rock opera of the same name.
They can see and hear without any problems, are motoring around and the boys are proudly standing while they pee.
They are migrating to the kitchen now where the real action is at our house and they will get to dive into puppy gruel tomorrow.

Their little personalities are coming out. The little palomino boy has literally given himself the call name Tiger.
Last nite he launched himself at my sock covered foot taking a chomp! The puff boy is already showing he is full of mischief and the other black eared boy and little girl are very active and sweet as well. They are turning out beautifully and I could not be more pleased with their health, vigor, physical and mental development. They have begun to wrestle with each other and are playing with their new toys. Now we just have to help them be all they can be!

Crystal continues to be a great mom. If she is in the room when I am handling a puppy and they squeak even the slightest she will come running over all concerned.
Juni appears to be delighted with these pups. When I let her in the puppy room for a few minutes she has her tail high and she is very happy. I think she is the proud Aunt. Lis has seen them with me holding her as she hasn’t quite figured it out yet. Plus Crystal will run at either one of them so we don’t mess with that too much. However Lis and Juni were wondering what was going on behind the mystery door so I thought it was time they knew.

There are many more pix than what we have posted on the website and I have been contacted by people all over the world about this litter. Most of the emails start with “wow what a pedigree!” and “I am willing to wait if there is not a puppy for me out of this litter”. It is satisfying to know that others agree with this breeding but I still want to reinforce that we did this breeding to contribute positive attributes to the gene pool and we have no intention of putting these dogs in places where they will unscrupulously be bred. It is extremely important that future breeding decisions are carried out with great care and we would very much like to be involved in that decision making process. However it is also extremely important to get these pups out into the world where they can be loved and adored by new families and shown.

At 3.5 weeks they all have enormous potential….
Meantime we are certainly enjoying them and the relationships we are creating with future puppy owners!

Today the puppies arrived! Every one of them was very vigorous entering this world and especially that little girl, she announced herself with authority making her way to a spigot before Crystal had cut the cord. They all look great and Crystal could not be a better mom!

Latest trip to Dr. Greer’s repro clinic consisted of x-ray for Crystal and socialization for Lis as several of the techs had not met her. Juni was along for the ride too of course.
On the x-ray we were able to count 4 skeletons however there may be more hiding. As an old equine vet told me when I was a mere tot “there are no hard fast rules in nature”. So, that means that the 6 pups we saw on the previous ultrasound could be there, were never there or a couple were there for a short time. We also did an ultrasound to check heartbeats and whatnot. All looks great!

Crystal is still happy and her usual princess self. We had her outside with us during some late afternoon bulb planting the other day and she was still interested in hunting chipmunks and of course peeing every 5 minutes as most pregnant women do.
One of the most fascinating and wonderful activities of late has been our ability to feel puppies wriggling about.
Next week we anticipate the little darlings will be born. We are done with preparations for the blessed event and just waiting for the dog stork to show up.

Craig and I wholeheartedly appreciate the good wishes we have received from many people. Nice to have as this breeding is the farthest thing from just a whim.
Please sign the guestbook and check back soon for more updates!

Ultrasound at BLSAC (Dr. Marti Greer’s Repro Clinic) last evening showed 6 puppies that appeared vigorous and healthy. Predicted whelp date is November 13, 2007 and we are making preparations to welcome them into the world.
Meantime Crystal is getting more ‘plumpy’ by the day and looks even more beautiful. We are accommodating her with plain organic yogurt, an organic scrambled egg every morning, rice cooked in organic chicken broth and all the Eagle Power dog food she wants. Eagle Power (orange bag) has slightly higher ratios of protein/fat than the puppy formula. (30% protein/20% fat and 449 Kcal/cup) She is naturally spending lots of time sleeping but still playful and enjoys running around the yard for a couple of laps from time to time. Stayed tuned for more updates!!!

Chinese Crested Puppies Anticipated This Year

After a long, arduous global search for just the right stud dog for Crystal I was led back to a dog I had my eye on when he was a young puppy. Ch. Lot’s Of Chrome At N’Co bred by Pam Litz, owned and loved by Helen Dalton.
The lineage is right, the health is right, the type and temperament of these two dogs mesh well and if genetics and lots of luck all line up we should produce an outstanding litter of beautiful Chinese Crested puppies.
The downside to breeding Crystal this year is it may drop her off the show rankings, but she is 2½ years old and has plenty of specialing left in her! The upside is to bring healthy, correct Chinese Cresteds into the world and the gene pool.
I am very excited about this breeding and appreciate Helen Dalton’s friendship thru this breeding and beyond. Also big thanks to Pam Litz for all her guidance. Pam is a wealth of information about the breed on subjects that are not documented anywhere but integral to decisions about breeding.

For more health and genetic information on Chinese Cresteds please see the Chinese Crested registry website and the Chinese Crested Health Database.

Stay tuned!!!!
